Advancing Health Literacy

The intent of the AHL program (a part of the UPO Workforce Institute) is that all DC residents become literate about health concerns and equipped to make informed decisions about their health. We are encouraging health education and equity for all ages through workshops, health fairs, field trips, focus groups, think tanks, and more.

Living Well Workshops

Joan Williams, who has 3 chronic diseases, helped to launch a workshop series on Chronic Disease Self-Management (in partnership with DC Health’s Cancer and Chronic Disease Prevention Bureau). She said, “The workshops gave me a better understanding of how to manage my conditions.” Thank you, Joan, for taking care of yourself and your neighbors!

UPO members posing. Some wearing capes and eye-masks like superheroes. At the center is a member wearing an inflatable pig costume, holding a sign saying "We are Covid-19 vaccination site"

Our team of health education heroes are willing to go all out to make a Halloween Covid vaccination clinic less scary and more inviting.
