Inmates at the D.C. jail participated in voting in the city’s primary election next week.
Elections officials and poll watchers were present as approximately 200 inmates voted on Wednesday.
Under the voting rules, only convicted felons in D.C. are banned from voting while they are incarcerated. If someone is on probation, they can vote.
One of the inmates voting was former D.C. Rabbi Barry Freundel, who was convicted of voyeurism and videotaping women at a Jewish ritual bath at the Kesher Israel Synagogue in 2015.
Freundel plead guilty to 52 misdemeanors, but was still eligible to vote.
He was a rabbi at Washington’s Kesher Israel Synagogue for more than 25 years before his arrest.
