Your Child

We educate, empower, and support children and families. We start with prenatal care, nurture children with early education, then our afterschool and summer programs prepare them for college, careers, and life success.

Guiding & Growing

We teach and we address families’ immediate and long-term needs, including how to lift themselves out of poverty.

“Blossoming”

Our Office of Early Learning is DC’s largest Early Head Start provider. Our educators use a proactive, family-led “whole family approach” to develop and achieve families’ goals.

“Maturing”

Our afterschool programs close the opportunity gap: CREATE (for students in grades 1-6) and POWER (grades 7-12). And our Beavers Scholarships make college dreams come true.

“Connecting”

“Foster Grandparents” — senior volunteers who mentor children — blend love and wisdom. By staying active and engaged, they gain a sense of purpose and improve their physical and mental health.

“I’m 17, a junior at Ballou High School — and inside is a UPO early learning center. Thanks to UPO, I’ve become a better parent, I’ll finish school on time, and I discovered UPO job training.”

Early Learning

We collaborate with families to achieve great outcomes — and our model is so successful that DC government asked UPO to oversee other early learning centers to raise their standards.
